Depending on their experience, they are responsible for parts of the scientific research within the project team they belong to. As team members they contribute to the definition of the project and the identification of the major research challenges. Projects will have to result in a good patent position in the field of investigation, and to timely transfer of the concepts to the Philips product lines for implementation in profitable products. Scientific results can be presented to the international scientific community at top conferences and through publications in leading journals. Our team members are expected to continuously improve their individual knowledge and skills and to establish and maintain contacts to the commercial parts within Philips, to other research groups within Philips and to the scientific community. At Philips Research East Asia(PREA) in Shanghai, a new research luster is set-up to do research in the domains of lighting electronics and lighting applications particularly in the fields of solar inverter systems, intelligent lamp drivers and circuits for LED lighting systems. In this initial phase, close collaborations exist with the sister laboratory in Aachen, Germany, and a training period at that laboratory may be part of the initial assignment. Building up the right skills and capabilities at our lab in Shanghai is one of the main challenges in these initial stages. Building up relations with the product development laboratories and product planning departments of Philips Lighting in China constitutes another important challenge. As the work of the group covers both the conceptual definition and the practical implementation of new power conversion concepts and architectures, the researchers are expected to have a broad scope. In practice this ranges from system architecture (both through theoretical analysis and simulation), analogue/power circuit design and simulation, high frequency lay-outing, PCB design and circuit validation. Specifically we are looking for electrical engineers with broad knowledge in the areas of analogue/power electronics to support our activities in the fields of solar inverter systems, intelligent lamp drivers and circuits for LED lighting systems. In view of the start-up nature of the activity in our Shanghai Laboratory, we explicitly expect entrepreneurship and initiative in the job candidates. Essential/Job Requirements: 1. MSc Electrical Engineering (PhD welcome) with excellent results 2. Background in lighting electronics preferred. 3. Experience in one or more of the following: analogue/power electronics design and implementation signal processing (digital and/or analogue), magnetic design, control theory 4. Strong communication skills 5. Interest in scientific work with immediate relevance for products (prior experience preferred) 6. Ambition and enthusiasm 7. Desire and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams 8.
