This will include the provision of financial and management accounting services including management reporting and budgeting, developing value added business analysis for various legal practice groups and business support functions, providing commercial analysis and advice and implementing internal controls in line with global specifications.
2. The role will also assist with activities and tasks related to treasury and taxation. Key dimensions: 1. The role has a direct reporting line to the Financial Controller - Hong Kong & Shanghai (“FC”) but will also work under direction from the Managing Partner of the Shanghai office.  There will be a need for interaction with the Group Reporting team based in London and liaison with peers based in the Hong Kong office and other offices.
2. The role will support the FC in the service delivery relationship with the Office Managing Partner (OMP) and with other partners based in the office. Key responsibilities: 1. General ledger: 2. Global System
· Prepare and record month-end journal entries, produce trial balances for review and analysis and perform agreed month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
· The role will be responsible for billings and will be assisted by a small team in this regard.  The role will also involve maintenance of petty cash, monthly payroll for local staff and setting up of electronic banking facilities.
· The role will also be responsible for maintaining a local accounting system (required for tax purposes) to run in parallel with the global accounting system.  This will involve working with an external consultant who currently performs the accounting function for fiscal/tax purposes.  This involves planning the logistics for providing monthly data (income and expenses) in timely manner so that local laws and regulations are complied with.
· The role supports the FC and the Office Managing Partner in the preparation of office and departmental budgets, re-forecasts and financial business plans.
· Overall, this role will need to focus on the provision of timely, relevant and reliable information. 3. Management accounting:
The role will assist the FC in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and resolution.  This will involve detailed investigation of general ledger postings. 4. Statutory/fiscal reporting:
The role will assist the FC generally in the preparation of office statutory and/or fiscal accounts in accordance with the firm’s timetable.  The role will also be responsible for liaising with the external auditors and tax consultants. 5. Other duties:
The role will involve closely working with the Office Manager to implement internal controls and ensuring tight control over the payment process. Key attributes: Qualification: 1. University degree.
2. Recognised Certification in Accountancy with good practical experience gained at either a Big Four accounting firm or multinational corporation.
3. Previous experience working with a professional services firm would also be an advantage but working in a commercially focused business organisation also be of greater relevance. Previous relevant experience of working in a similar role across jurisdictions and cultures would also be considered favourably. Hard skills: 1. Financial modelling.
2. Effective writing and presentation.
3. Fluent in written and spoken Mandarin and English.
4. Experience with setting up accounting systems for Shanghai tax compliance requirements.
5. Though not essential, prior experience of working with “Elite” financial software would be an advantage.
6. Good working knowledge of local (Shanghai) taxation requirements would be a definite advantage.
7. Ability to interact with partners/senior management.
8. High degree of professionalism and accuracy in work. Soft skills: 1. Good interpersonal.
2. Ability to work under pressure at high levels of performance.
